Cortegana is a Spanish municipality in Huelva province, situated in the central zone of Parque Natural Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche,, in the far west of the Sierra Morena and in the north of Huelva province, Andalusia.
It has an area of 173.9 km2 and has a population density of 28.39 inhabitants / km2 .Cortegana currently has 4,735 inhabitants (1 January, 2018), distributed over the main town and its villages: La Corte, Puerto Lucía. San Telmo and Valdelmusa.
Its geographic location is 37º 54′ N, 6º 49′ W. The town is 673 metres above sea level, some 109 kilometres from Huelva, the provincial capital, and 120 kilometres from Seville. It is about 40 kilometres from the Portuguese border.
Due to certain historical processes and various environmental conditions, Cortegana municipality has the peculiarity of being divided into two parts: one, in the heart of the Sierra, where are Cortegana itself and two of its adjacent villages: La Corte and Puerto Lucía, and the other, to the south-east, in the southern Sierra and Andévalo, consisting of the districts of SanTelmo and Valdelamusa.
